Smart Locks for Custom Entry Doors
A smart lock is part of a mechanical, electrical and user-access system. Select it early enough to coordinate the door profile, lock preparation, power route, handle position and the installer responsible for commissioning.
Begin with the locking architecture
Clarify whether the door uses a single-point, multipoint or motorized locking approach. The smart-access device must work with that mechanism rather than being selected independently.
Plan power, data and service access
Record voltage, cable route, door-to-frame transfer, controller location, network assumptions and how components can be reached for future service.
Define responsibility for integration
The door supplier, access-control vendor, electrician and local installer may own different interfaces. Put device models, wiring responsibility, programming and final testing into the project record.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose the smart lock after the door is made?
That can create compatibility and machining problems. The exact device or an approved preparation should be confirmed before production whenever possible.
Who programs the access-control system?
That responsibility depends on the selected product and project team. It should be assigned in writing to the appropriate local integrator or appointed party.
